Doyle Investigations

I was never a big Doyle fan — though I had nothing against the character — and could frankly never understand the spate of denial fic that poured forth upon his demise. “Doyle Investigations”, however, takes another tack. Winner of a Halo Award (Winter 2002) for Best Alternate Universe, this is a collaborative series set in the Los Angeles of the alternate universe created by Anyanka in “the Wish”, and follows the activities of a half-demon ex-cop detective and those who work with, against and alongside him. The characterization of the alternate Doyle is convincing and captivating, the depictions of the alternate Slayer and Watcher who find themselves aligning with him are equally well drawn, and the result is a collection of stories that leave you wishing for more. As I said, I was never that enthusiastic about the original Doyle, so for the authors to win me over so solidly shows work of some substance and power. It makes me wish this actually were a canon series; creativity so adept deserves a wider audience.

As all stories are set in an alternative reality, there are no spoilers. Further, all are written by multiple authors, so assigning credit is difficult.
