the Lurkers

The Lurkers (Maddog and Rastro) have a warped sense of humor. This is fairly common; less common is for warped humor to manifest itself in stories that are actually entertaining. Even more unusual is for non-Buffy-dedicated authors to turn out stories that show the proper respect for the venue. The Lurkers have written multiple tales featuring the same two characters (investigative tabloid reporters Chandler Ames and Kennedy Paris) invading the worlds of various popular series, yet the characters are always used as a lens through which to view the visited reality, rather than the ‘guest’ reality being an excuse to show off the characters. Ames and Paris are in high form in “Demon Possessed …”, etc., and the piece provides a funny, surreal travelogue of Sunnydale as seen by strangers. “Gravity Kills”, a non-Ames/Paris story, takes a single joke and makes it work. These are just fun. (There’s a third story by Maddog alone, “A Day Off in the Life of Xander Harris”, that also passes the time pleasantly.)
