NWHepcat

The end of the regular prime-time run of Buffy the Vampire Slayer raised a serious question: would online Buffy fandom 1) languish, 2) desperately hang in there due to the actions of die-hard devotees, or 3) continue and even flourish? NWHepcat gives us encouraging evidence of the latter possibility. Having turned out a number of excellent stories ranging from late Season Seven to events following the series ender — including two separate series arcs, Snapshots and Auld Acquaintance — this author definitely shows that lovers of Buffyfic are more than willing to turn out quality work even though the series itself no longer exists. All of NWHepcat’s stories can be found at this site; my favorite is “This Little Light”, a lengthy and massively detailed story that has some of the most intense and authentically rendered background detail I’ve ever seen. Original characters tend either to not quite fit into the world of Buffy or to try and dominate it; neither is the case here, and Kallie’s emotional journey is easily as tortuous as the path on which her destiny takes her. Read this, enjoy it, and praise the author. We need more.
