Philister

When an author reworks canon, taking known events and recasting them in an entirely different shape, the results can be novel, uneven, puzzling, distasteful, or several of the preceding at once. In “Kill the Pain”, Philister examines the personality dynamic between Buffy and Faith, and turns out a variation of unexpected psychological and emotional depth. Producing an entirely different Season 3, this story doesn’t leave a reader with any warm, happy feelings, but it’s definitely memorable and original.
