In the main, I don’t really care for darkfic. Most of it seems to be done simply for the sake of darkness, rather than for the purpose of turning out a good story. Sometimes the story really is good, however, and “Plastic Bag” meets that standard. This author has produced a number of Oz-centered fics, and this is the one I like most. Vivid and unsettling, it shows a disturbingly plausible might-have-been that, thankfully, never was.
