Rowan

Well-known and well-regarded for a variety of works, Rowan is one of those authors who, while not necessarily essaying different styles or genres, definitely explores different subject matters. The stories I’ve chosen serve as snapshots rather than extensive exposition: “Tomorrow We Die” depicts the internal musings of a character infrequently seen in Buffyfic (but usually treated sympathetically when he does appear); “the Twelfth Sister” and “the Twelfth Sister Revisited” posit two variations of a central theme, and show how a single change can produce sharply different results. “Masquerade” comes closest to offering a standard narrative, but still provides additional insights and possibilities within a reasonably plausible scenario. None require much time, all are worth noting.
