Ever have an idea that you kind of like, and then discover that somebody else had the same one? It happened to me through this story by Rowland. Some time ago I turned out “Critical Review” as a lark, only to see it garner more attention than I had ever expected. Then recommendations from a fanfic mailing list led me to “Legend”; the approach is basically the same as in my story, but he carries it farther and delves into areas I never thought of exploring. This is just plain fun, and I readily acknowledge myself upstaged. There is no reason to suspect that Rowland ever saw my prior work, but it wouldn’t matter if he had; he did it better, and entertained me mightily in the process.
