Perri Smith

One of the original Sunnydale Slayers, Smith continues to turn out a body of eminently readable work. “Spring Break, Sidekick Style” serves as a companion piece to “Spring Break, Slayer Style”, by Valerie Meachum, and is actually one of Smith’s lesser works. “Toy Soldiers” offers some interesting insights into a character who had previously been neglected; “What Are Friends For?”, at the SunS Angel Annex, inserts an intriguing extra scene into the Angel episode, “Eternity”; and “techsupport@demon.com” is funny, convincing, and shows a marvelously effective use of an approach that other authors have attempted with markedly less success. Read and enjoy.

Finally, a crossover piece that focuses more on character exploration than action, “Like Minds” touches all the right notes. This is a snack rather than a full meal, but serves well in that capacity.

[Note: more stories by Smith can be found in “the Darkest Dawn”, a collaborative work by the Sunnydale Slayers, already reviewed on this list, but they should be read in context with the other stories.]
